Hi
There is a post for v 6.1 in this subforum but thought I would report the following for anyone who knows how to resolve it.
Booting up a real cd without any amended changes to the current structure.
I am taken to the non-graphical prompt with error showing as
/usr/bin/startx line 12 mcookie not found
failed in waitforX
I did a search as I have both 32 and 64 bit distros installed. I know that might have confused the iso.
Also the 32 bit is on partition 3 while 64 bit is on partition 4.
mcookie does not appear to exist on any of those 2 builds. Maybe its inside the core?
I know I have to edit boot line to either norestore or name the 64 bit partition but does anyone know if they have a mcookie on their system?
My 32 bit normal bootup is fine, hard drive bootup of 64 bit fails for xbase.lst, onboot.lst and "my" xorg.lst
thanks for reading.

edit
reboot and choose tce=sda4 before the initrd bit....boots up and finds my tczs.

Ok I wonder if in home folder mcookie relates to this hidden dot file?
.Xauthority as peekijg inside shows the string MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE
which could be abbreviated as mcookie?
Ahh and I think I found my hard drive boot up error, its an empty file
will try replacing it then if that fails will delete it for each reboot test

No that was not enough
Booting the cd I elected to replace all these files using a bootcode that does not include
"home=something"
.Xauthority
.xsession
.profile
There was no change in next file but for others who might be as bad as me consider copying this file as well
.Xdefaults
Please mark this post as solved if you have time
cheers

Sadly does not work. x64 installed to HD (via x86 tc-install) and menu entry changed as per:
http://forum.tinycorelinux.net/index.php?topic=17939.0
But x64 will never get to GUI, as it errors "mcookie not found"

I'd guess at one of two things:
* you did not create a separate tce folder (for example tce64) for 64-bit extensions.
* you are trying to use Xvesa (32-bit only) rather than Xorg-7.7
What does this give "tce-status -i | grep X"?

I will check it when I can.
But after x86 install I only copied vlinuz64 & corepure64 & edited .conf file (as per previous message)
Still can not understand why there iss no tc-install64 available

core (32-bit) and corepure64 (64-bit) do not use the same extensions.
If you intend to boot both core and corepure64, you need to create separate extension directories (for example tce and tce64) for their extensions.
If you only intend to use corepure64, you can delete your current extensions and download the correct ones.

Logical, thanks
