Title: Load ALSA without PulseAudio
Post by: Mithotyn on August 01, 2014, 12:20:49 PM
Hi Bela,

in preparation for using my pi as ham radio decoder, i wanted to install ALSA to use my USB Soundcard.

Two questions:

Why is there a dependency from alsa.tcz over alsa-plugins.tcz to pulseaudio.tcz? I don't need pulseaudio and all its dependencies and had to edit the local alsa.tcz.dep on my own.

IMHO it would be better to exclude pulseaudio from ALSA to keep core audio functionality small and simple.

Second, aplay isn't working due to missing "audio" group. The same error is described here, the solutions works for me too: http://forum.tinycorelinux.net/index.php/topic,4788.msg26180.html#msg26180

Do i realy need to add this group at boottime or did i miss something while installing ALSA?

Thanks
Joachim

Joachim,

Just tested on a stock piCore 5.3.1 system, aplay and speaker-test do work for both tc and root, no need for audio group.

Regards... Bela

P.S: Updated the alsa-modules package in the repo, please update your system.
