Title: 'RAW' hard disk
Post by: juan on August 13, 2013, 12:58:43 PM
I bought a new HD and somehow managed to initialize it (ext4) without adding a partition table.  I copied a few hundred gb into it, and everything works fine...except the disk has no partition table...

Can I now add a partition table without destryoing the existing data?

TIA!

You can't, without moving the data off and putting it back.

Note that not having a partition table is not a criminal offense ;)

Hehe  :) Well, "I think I learned something today"

Also, I tried to access the file system from windows xp :  "Linux reader" can read it just fine, but ext2fsd apparently can't - I'm guessing that's because of the missing partition table?

Thanks curaga!
