iwconfig gives the following output
lo no wireless extensions.
dummy0 no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions
and lspci -vv gives this for my wireless
01:02.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2200BG [Calexico2] Network Connection (rev 05)
Subsystem: Intel Corporation Device 2701
Control: I/O- Mem+ BusMaster- SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- DisINTx-
Status: Cap+ 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B+ ParErr- DEVSEL=medium >TAbort- <TAbort- <MAbort- >SERR- <PERR- INTx-
Interrupt: pin A routed to IRQ 10
Region 0: Memory at e0000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=4K]
Capabilities: <access denied>
I believe it is not the best of wireless "cards" on an ACER laptop TravelMate 292LCi
Can anyone help with the wifi setup ethernet connection is fine

Did you install firmware-ipw2200.tcz ?
-
OOps no I had not done soon. Now iwconfig says
eth1 IEEE 802.11bg ESSID:off/any
Mode:Managed Channel:0 Access Point: Not-Associated
Bit Rate:0 kb/s Tx-Power=20 dBm Sensitivity=8/0
Retry limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
Power Management:off
Link Quality:0 Signal level:0 Noise level:0
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0
now lspci -vv gives
01:02.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2200BG [Calexico2] Network Connection (rev 05)
Subsystem: Intel Corporation Device 2701
Control: I/O- Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- DisINTx-
Status: Cap+ 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B+ ParErr- DEVSEL=medium >TAbort- <TAbort- <MAbort- >SERR- <PERR- INTx-
Latency: 128 (750ns min, 6000ns max)
Interrupt: pin A routed to IRQ 10
Region 0: Memory at e0000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=4K]
Capabilities: <access denied>
Kernel driver in use: ipw2200
Kernel modules: ipw2200
However I think I installed everything else. Which of these would you recommend, use or need
- wireless_tools
- wpa_gui
- wpa_supplicant
- iw
I have the firmware extension before" wireless-3.0.21-tinycore.tcz" in the onbootlist and that makes wpa_gui see other devices now
Thank you for that vital piece of info. The forum is great for solving problems.

Depends if you need WPA encryption or not.
-
If you install the "wifi" extension, it will install what is required (apart from the firmware) in order for wireless to work in most circumstances.

Thank you all - up and running now

Hello all. I bought a new acer aspire v5 571p laptop that tinycore+ wifi worked when windows8 was not installed. But whenever win8 is installed in tiny, iwconfig shows no wifi....Any advice

Check your function keys and make sure you have wireless turned on.

Thanks for ur reply. This acer aspire v5 571p has no wifi switch, only fn+f3... Tc stable with wifi ext. works when win8 isnt on the harddrive. If I format and install tc it works as is, Ive heard w/ win8 it can block the wifi somehow... however, i downloaded the tc 5.0rc1 and its wifi works w/ win8 installed,so yeah everyone try tc 5.0 rc
