Post by: roberts on November 01, 2012, 08:40:13 AM
I am pleased to announce the release of Core 4.7.
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/tinycorelinux/4.x/x86/release

Change Log:
Note: Requires new wbar.tcz and Xprogs.tcz (apps, scmapps, filetool) now available in the repository.

Note: Having both scm and tcz in ondemand means changes to tcz ondemand:

Note: Be sure to update dependencies for recent change in fltk library name.

Thank you very much!

I REALLY like how it gets better each time it gets a new release!

I just started a "web desktop" to be accessed and able to configure Core from any browser... Is there some time to submit it to the next release? Or Core use some kind of "freeze" for the new stuff of the next releases?

Thanks again to all Core Team!

(and sorry by my english)

hi roberts,

in my testing the last release proved to be bugfree, stable and so easy to use than ever.

there is a small observation i want to report.

in former releases the loading of big scm-packages f.e. libreoffice ondemand took around 100% cpu.
in the current release less than 30% cpu is used during the ondemand loading and i think it takes some more time (but i´m not sure)...
perhaps this could be seen as an advantage, to load with less cpu?
afterwards the loaded ondemand scm is so fast as a flash of lightning.

but nevertheless, the current usage of scms improved so far ahead that i see it as a milestone:
easy to handle, a great tool set that is lean and clean in the very last consequence.
... and at the end it even offers so much fun to use it :)

keep on that way, thank you!

is there any rule on updates to classic and scm- packages ? are they eventually going to be updated simultaneously? are some packages going to be scm-only ?

right now scm's in general seem more up to date, compared to classic packages, and i'd hate to hop back and forth between tcz and scm to have more up to date setup (especially libreoffice).

There is no timeline for next release. During early stages releases were every 4 to 6 weeks. Now since the project is mature releases are not nearly as often. There has been only 6 point releases this year. If you have ideas use TCB Talk or if you have code use the programming and scripting areas to seed.

There was an extra md5sum check upon loading each scm that was dropped. Md5sum checking is available via audit functions. This perhaps is the noticeable drop in cpu demand. I am glad to hear that this release is performing well.

This is really a discussion item for TCE Talk and not the base. Extensions are typically contributed from the community.
Therefore each community member where there is such a concern should be contacted for planned update requests.

sorry, i was just curious about there is some higher level policy on those extensions. so far i can assume there isn't.

Mr. Roberts

I found that on CorePlus, when you try to start with openbox from the boot menu, the Openbox does not start (X ok without WM, only the default X cursor).

Trying to start it manually, it says that there is no liblzma.so. I've found that this lib is provided by the xz.tcz extension (which is not included in the CorePlus).

I downloaded the iso 2x and tested both on 2 different machines. Same problem.

Is there someone that had this problem too?

Except that, everything is working ok.

Install liblzma.tcz

Hi @bmarkus!

Installing the xz.tcz also works, I was just saying that if it (the liblzma.so) is needed to the Openbox to work, and it is one of the default packages included in the CorePlus, perhaps the iso may have to be built again (a 4.7.1 version?).

Using just liblzma.tcz as you sugested, do I have to put it as OnBoot?

Thanks! (sorry about the bad english again...)

@Zendrael, Thanks for reporting. Seems a recent change in .dep file.
Such is the nature of a rolling release repository. A shame it wasn't caught during the long release candidate cycle.
Fixed and re-posted CorePlus-4.7.iso.

Mr. @Roberts, I'm glad to help!
