Hi libchk
Not all our forum members are in the same time zone, so you may have to show a little more patience.
If you don't see the extension you need in the repository, you can post a request under TCE Talk->Extension Requests
or submit an extension yourself should you wish to.

Just for reference, I've posted a question at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/vmware-view-client/+question/210992 (https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/vmware-view-client/+question/210992) in order to ascertain the viability of repackaging/redistribution.  Reading usr/share/doc/vmware-view-client/VMware-view-client-EULA-en.txt and usr/share/doc/vmware-view-client/open_source_licenses.txt in the archive vmware-view-client_1.6.0.orig.tar.gz, I'm left uncertain.

This may be an item for which a TC community member (such as myself) or contributor/developer could provide instructions here or in the wiki for how to make your own vmware-view-closed.tcz for private use but can't provide the actual extension.

No response yet.  At this point, a recipe (and perhaps script) would likely be the safest from a compliance standpoint.

The TinyCore Builder for View Client seems to use v1.5 of the View Client for Linux.  I don't think this is the Open client since it has PCoIP support.

You can build it from: repurpose dot vmwarecloud dot at

I'm trying to modify this TC w/View build to PXE boot.  I just used the cr_tc-initrd.sh  http://forum.tinycorelinux.net/index.php/topic,12300.0.html (http://forum.tinycorelinux.net/index.php/topic,12300.0.html)  and replaced the lines that read copy2fs.lst with onboot.lst.  It seems to almost work.  I get the GUI and the View Client tries to load, but I get a black screen with an X cursor.  I need to figure out why View Client is having trouble.

Anyone know how to reach out to Fabian Wilckens (the VMware SE who did the build) so we can figure out PXE booting the TinyCore?

Thanks

PS - Sorry I didn't mean to hijack!

Yes it is.  I see two issues with that site:
1) Uncertain licensing on the View client leads me to think it may not be compliant with licensing terms.  (I can't find anything about redistribution yet)
2) They don't try to advertise to say where to hunt for support for the resultant remaster.

This may be a separate issue of needing X.org instead of XVesa.

I think  tcbuilder  is who you are looking for, see:
http://forum.tinycorelinux.net/index.php/topic,13485.msg74714.html#msg74714
You could try sending him a PM and see if he responds.

Has ANYONE got this to work over PXE i desperatly need a solution i tried it all! even making own .gz to add to core.gz during PXE boot up.. by using the trick to put them /tmp/buitin/optional folder, it kinda gets them installed but doesent launch startx as it should i still get thrown to the cmd prompt. even manualy loading them from prompt doesent work in the case of them being in /tmp/buildin/optional.

this would be the best solution for me. We have a classroom of computers that they would boot up and do nothing else than connect to the VM desktops. so this tool is perfect. but using usbs or CDS wont work (stolen, scratched...etc.)

Or if someone has or knows about  a lightweight clean pxe vmware client? id love to try it out.

I'm going to try to work on two things:

1) Docs on my dynamic multimaster technique.  I've got an assembly of about 24 CGZ files that I use composed together with core.gz to make different environments.  To boot something akin to TinyCore, core.gz,tcxdep.cgz,tcxv.cgz,tcdfob.cgz where the last is my own custom scripts to allow me to use the .dep files that depend on kernel module extensions without modification.

2) Script/docs for downloading, extracting and using VMware View 1.7.  Due to uncertainties, I do not feel comfortable with distributing binaries.  It's quite conceivable that View is licensed for end user download and Canonical has a special license for them to redistribute it.
