Title: (4.4 && 4.5.1) modprobe: chdirs file not found
Post by: brijones on May 18, 2012, 07:41:09 PM
Okay, so it's been awhile since I've messed around with TinyCore, I did a stint messing about with a custom dban/buildroot setup. Anyways, I am back, the TinyCore load time is definitely the biggest reason. Having come back, I seem to have this issue which is preventing me from getting this project done.

So, I take the core.gz file, I extract it, I add lshw, I recreate the core.gz file. I put the core.gz file into the rest of the files, and create the iso. This is all straight forward and never had any issue with this in the past. Now, we get this error posted above in subject. "modprobe: chdirs(kernel version) file or directory not found.

I've gone back to 4.4, may try 4.3 but I don't know what the issue is. I'm testing it in virtual box which had no issues with it in the past. Now, nothing.

Hi brijones
You might want to check out the  ezremaster.tcz  extension.

I must explain, I don't actually use TinyCore on this system. I'm using linux mint. The purpose or reason for me wishing to put together a TinyCore, is for work. Basically, the idea is to have a 10mb PXE boot image which can upload to an FTP server a lshw report.

You might ask why, and fair enough, the idea is I test computers all day long, I plug them in, and I need to report their details in my database so they can be sold. So, the concept is that I will plug in 4 machines at a time, boot to network, and each machine puts it's specifications on the server, and then we sell the computers.

The faster we can do the above, the more units we can process in a day. On a good day we can process 300 computers per person per 7.5 hour day. To do this, we need a PXE image which boots fast. TinyCore is slightly faster then dban, I am not sure why, it might have something to do with dban being in a bzi file format, if I knew I'd fix it.

So, I'm sitting on tinycore, and I have no idea why it won't work. I have working versions I have made previously, though any attempt to make a new version seems to be falling on it's arse. ezremaster is not an option, I'm not working on a machine which has that as a possible solution. I'm merely asking what the issue is at the moment.

Kernel and initrd mismatch results in that error. Make sure you have the correct vmlinuz file.
