3.0.3 has been a bit lacking in quality in areas we care about, mainly networking (cifs client, r6040 ethernet).
We're tentatively scheduling an update to the latest stable 3.0 for 4.4.
List of changes currently:
- ax25
- kexec
- efficeon agp patch
- r6040 mii patch if not already in the stable update
- isa libata
- xts/gf128
If you'd like to see a change in this update, please post here before 4.3 final is released.
-
Kexec could be useful - I seem to reboot more often using Tinycore than other systems

Thank you for mentioning AX.25 I'm really missing it but was busy with other stuff to create a custom kernel.
:)

Hm, why? Extension updates or something else?
-
also I do it often, for backup issues (ok, there are other ways, but I'm so okay), to clear the ram (use all the programs in ram), one example? libreoffice :)

Hi curaga!
Yes! A kernel update would mean a lot to me, and I mean A LOT!
Have fun developing TC or is it just C now?,

General tweaking of the system, mostly.
Anyways - any speed increases in any area is always welcome.

Just curious, why 3.0 and not 3.2?
-
It's a stable update to fix a few issues. We'd still like to keep more radical kernel changes to between major releases.
-
Added isa libata support. While still experimental, that's not likely to change due to the few users with such hw. Those users can't access their hd at all currently, so enabling it should be the lesser evil.
-
Is libata fix for older ata hardware?
-
It's for the hardware so old it can't be driven by the generic driver. I recall one user saying his old Toshiba laptop could not see the ide disk under TC4.
-
Is kexec reliable now?

I know there was a user specifically requesting carl9170 as the ar9170 driver (Atheros USB WLAN) was removed as of 3.0.
here: http://forum.tinycorelinux.net/index.php/topic,11544.msg60997.html#msg60997 (http://forum.tinycorelinux.net/index.php/topic,11544.msg60997.html#msg60997)

The carl* driver is experimental in 3.0, while the ar* one was stable. Curious they'd remove one before the other is considered good to go.
The general policy is not to enable experimental/possibly buggy drivers, I think it would be best to keep to it here. The ISA ide support above is a bit different situation.
-
Perhaps a keyword in the package name to indicate its status (with the obvious notes in the .info).
-
This has been discussed before. The community is free to submit such extensions. I do not want to provide them for the possibly quite wrecked user experience they provide, and even with such a stamp in the info file, they would be assosiated as "official".
-
Do you have an ETA?
-
ETA on TC 4.4? After 4.3 is out ;)
4.3 then is waiting on Robert to get back from the expo, among some other things.

I mean any version with a new kernel supporting AX.25 I'm working on an applications where I have to test AX.25 stack and would be better to use the official kernel instead of make a custom one. I'm ready for beta testing before official launch.
-
Ok, I'll ping you when there's something to test. It'll be after 4.3 final, though.

- r6040 mii patch if not already in the stable update
I've tried Coreplus 4.2, 4.2.1, 4.3rc1 and none seem to work with the r6040 problem.
Is this patch imminent?
Is there a version that works (on a Vortex86mx) in the meantime?
-
It will be there for Core 4.4.

No, I think it's not in any stable linux kernel yet, 3.3 is not out and it has not been applied to the stable updates as far as I can see.
-
I found the following, vxdx:gc301 at ftp.dmp.com.tw/Linux_DEMO/vmlinuz-tcl42.zip, that seems to do the trick in 4.2 and 4.2.1,
which is fine in the interim.
Is there any chance to add the RDC Xorg driver as well to the distribution, as XVesa doesn't support 1680x1050.

I think the RDC driver was a bit low quality. Because of that, and me not having such hw, I'd rather someone who can test it create an extension.
-
Added xts and gf128, for truecrypt uses.
-
4.3 is out, suggestions time is over.
-
Well, I can see all those '*-3.0.21-tinycore.tcz' extensions popping up in the 4.x repository, so I assume we are going to have kernel version 3.0.21 (instead of 3.0.3) starting with 4.4rc1. That, plus the fact that already new 'config-3.0.21-tinycore*' files and "friends" are available tells me that someone was well prepared and just waiting for a "starter's gun" ...
-
Actually no, the 4.3 release just happened on such a day I had a lot of free time ;)
