Title: Updating to a newer tinycore kernel version
Post by: lnxkrnl on April 13, 2009, 05:09:54 PM
Hello,

I would like to update my 1.2 kernel to 1.3.

Can I use the commands in the hard drive installation instructions outlined in #5 "Copy over TC system files" to update the TC kernel? Is the cp command with the option "-p" all that is needed?  To copy over bzIamage and tinycore.gz.

Also, what command syntax would display my tinycore kernel version number?

I am a Linux newbe. It's weird that I would show up just when TC was released. I've never had so much fun with my computer using tinycore!

Thank You.

There was no change to the Linux kernel, bzImage in v1.3.
You will only need to copy over the new tinycore.gz to update from 1.2 to 1.3.

You should check the personal data files indicated in the news post that you may need to adjust based on your preferences.

You can type version at the system prompt to see the TC version.

The Linux kernel version is displayed during boot, and you can type uname -a at a system prompt.
