nvidia-96.43.16.tcz
« on: April 29, 2010, 05:53:27 AM »
Thanks to John Moorman for:

Code: [Select]
Title:          nvidia-96.43.16.tcz
Description:    NVIDIA really legacy drivers
Version:        96.43
Author:         NVIDIA Corporation
Original-site:  http://www.nvidia.com
Copying-policy: Distributable
Size: 9.43MB
Extension_by:   John Moorman
Comments:       This is for old NVIDIA cards and depends on Xorg.  It works
for my geforce 4 mx 440. If /etc/X11/xorg.conf does not exist it
will be created for you. If you already have an xorg.conf you
can edit it manually or run "sudo nvidia-xconfig" to generate
nvidia driver entries.  This extension will also add
etc/X11/xorg.conf to /opt/.filetool.lst if there is not already
a line containing xorg.conf.  In addition it will add the line
pointing to the tls directory to /etc/ld.so.conf and add
/etc/ld.so.conf to /opt/.filetool.lst.
Change-log:     2010/04/29 First version 96.43
Current: 2010/04/29 First version 96.43

Tried it on my nvidia geforce3...it worked, but got message at boot  ..pkg-config not found...so downloaded pkg-config extension and tried again...message went away on boot...did not seem to make any difference  in performance so far.

Further to my trying this extension with a geforce3....this extension has made a noticable  improvement in video performance over the previous stock xorg driver....."nv"...
I have noticed particularily an improvement in streaming and local video using my limited P111 600hz system.

Thank you Johm Moorman for this extension......I tried very hard to compile this  myself...with no luck ...so your efforts are much appreciated

Nvidia > nv is to be expected, nv had no video accel whatsoever, and is no longer supported by Nvidia.
The only barriers that can stop you are the ones you create yourself.
