tiny core kernel patch?
« on: April 29, 2010, 05:59:37 AM »
Hello, i am new here sorry if this is the wrong section.

I was looking for the patches to create a tiny core kernel, but i was unable to find them.

I would like to patch the 2.4.31 kernel, is this doable?

can anyone point me in the direction of the kernel patches.

thanks.

It was in kernel v2.6 that enhanced the initrd capabiliites, of such with the new initramfs, which is the basis of Tiny Core. I am not aware of any backports of such to 2.4.x kernel. But then I no longer folllow the 2.4 kernel.

Ah ok. Thankyou for the enlightenment.

well in that case is it possible to find a patch for a 2.6.16 kernel or earlier?

We never used a kernel earlier than 2.6.24. Anyway, the patch contains loop-aes and cosmetic changes, neither is required for normal operation. You should be able to use upstream 2.6 kernels if you wish.
The only barriers that can stop you are the ones you create yourself.

Is there a specific reason to use 2.6.16 or earlier?

Thanks curaga, are you saying i should be able to apply the patches to any 2.6.xx kernal?

Hello bmarcus, the reasons i am asking about these earlier kernals is that i would like to try and compile a kernel that would run on the xbox1 hardware.

The loop-aes part won't likely apply. What I meant is that you can use unpatched kernels from kernel.org.
