In the old days I would have volunteered to help resolve this, as long as I was allowed to actually fix it, and not add more hacks and patches, but since I don't know either software package, experience guides me to not do that, or to even try.
You're not wrong.

BUT...
a) When posting complaints, criticisms, bugs, observations or even praise...  include a link...  a screen-shot...  something more than opinion or flaming.
b) Everyone will claim to be a pro at (enter a topic) but very, very few step up and make change.

Keep an eye on upcoming posts; change is in fact in the air - to what extent is up to the admins to decide/determine.

just now am pasting this text into the forum from an offline editor.

using both chromium and dillo, searched via "https://www.google.com" for:

site:forum.tinycorelinux.net "500 error"

and the top result was:

https://forum.tinycorelinux.net/index.php?topic=25641.0

and that forum post also references:

https://www.antihttps.com/tc13_ff_time-zones.htm

our normal(and normally successful) browser for forum usage is:
Firefox 102.14.0esr (64-bit)

with these add-ons/extensions:
https everywhere
minerblock
noscript
privacybadger
snowflake
ublockorigin
uboscope
umatrix

as always your mileage may vary.

also we can visit https://www.linuxquestions.org/ with these settings/add-ons

I haven't been able to access linuxquestions in years because they use tight cloudflare settings and cloudflare blocks me.
could you elaborate?
interested in understanding the settings and blocks parts.
thanks!

That was a bum steer from Google then because that's way off-topic. However this post was my best stab at identifying the cause of the forum errors.

In short: Turn off mod_security

It might be an easy fix, if the web host allows it.

Cloudflare is a free/paid service that can speed up website loads and protect it from bots/ddos traffic. If the website owner selects tight or "high security" settings, they will block many legitimate users as well if they think they're bots. If you're such an unlucky user, you will either get a captcha, or a plain 1020 cloudflare error page.
The only barriers that can stop you are the ones you create yourself.

Hi CentralWare

I started the private message internal server error and you asked post any issues to post here. (for new pm errors)

So initially I was attempting to send a much larger pm with both code and quote boxes and my normal waffle, pretending I know what I am talking about.  ;D
After numerous errors I got the error to duplicate my end with just a quote box with all info as per ATTACHMENT text file

attempted on chromium-browser piCore64 14.x also known as arm8 or aarch64......as it was for something I built on that arch.

What is weird is I can paste that EXACT contents into a new forum post  and preview it without error.
Anyhow maybe you can attempt to send me a pm and duplicate the error?

thanks

I tried to post the attached guide in August and got "Internal Server Error" for previewing any significant part of it.

Trying again now, after this post suggested that things might have improved, I get the same result.

Date/Time when it happened
1st (recent) attempt - 2023-09-18 23:54:12 UTC
2nd (recent) attempt - 2023-09-19 02:50:25 UTC

Your computer type and operating system
(I doubt the relevence, but seeing as you asked)
1st attempt: x86 running Damn Small Linux 4.4.10
2nd attempt: x86_64 running Tiny Core 14.0

Your web browser it happened in
1st attempt: Dillo 3.0.5
2nd attempt: Firefox 115.2.1esr

A description of what was experienced and if you did anything specific that could have triggered the event
I tried to post the attached text as a new topic in the section "Programming & Scripting - Unofficial". The second time I tried to post it in "TCE Tips & Tricks". As I also experienced at multiple times on different days in early August, the forum website returned "Internal server error" instead of posting or previewing that text.

Screen shots, log files or anything else you might think would be helpful for us to recreate the scenario
Attempting to preview a post containing the attached text causes the error to be recreated.

I accept that this was a very long post, maybe too long. I was going to put it on my website instead and just post a link, but I haven't got around to it. Shorter posts may still be affected by the same problem though, as was the case before.

Seeing as there's no immediate response, I'll also note some new problems that have inconvenienced me since the most recent intervention, in case you prefer to deal with these things in bulk:

  • It's no longer possible to log in to the forum with cookies disabled. Previously the "An Error Has Occurred!" page would be shown on the first attempt, but after that the PHPSESSID variable would be added to the URL, which allowed cookie-denying users to log in on the second attempt. This is no longer happening, so it seems to be impossible to log in without accepting cookies now.
  • When the forum is loaded over HTTP, CSS stylesheets and most images are loaded over HTTPS, which will fail if HTTPS is not supported/working in the web browser being used.

I accept that these may be things that you don't consider worth fixing. In case you're wondering: no I don't post on any other web forums anymore because they've already annoyed me, I'm mainly just on Usenet now. Most other users probably do already expect cookies and HTTPS support to be required by all the web forums that they use.
