foomatic-rip warning
« on: April 18, 2013, 10:01:24 PM »
Altho I may be paranoid, I am the maintainer of this package and built it poorly.

Altho I don't have a printer to use with foomatic-db packages at this moment, as I have HP 3050 using hplip*
in playing around with a PPD I inserted foomatic-rip as the filter and got a nasty CUPS error advising me of bad permissions

AND......the cups page...link to actual printer .....has a status page.....and that status said foomatic-rip failed.

Therefore I will rebuild foo*-rip with correct permissions

But as no-one has filed a bug here .......I am hoping you might wait to see if anything comes out of me filing a bug report upstream when I tried to report a
"make check" error

I am showing the upstream name = foomatic-filters

If in the meantime,  you can spot what I am doing wrong here the attachment that was sent with bug report, in a code box to keep font size

If no-one is in a rush then I prefer to upload only one fix. But if others reply now that they know I built poorly, I will submit a rebuild (without the make check) and hope its ok

Thanks thats a relief.

If you get a chance over the next week, could you turn on debug in the admin section of cups page

Naturally you need a root password saved into cups first, just click on add printer....input password then go back to admin page if you like
and print a one line of text to save ink and then upload your cups log?

An easy way of getting log, once debug is turned,  is to go to

and I use my right hand click inside that log inside the web browser and save as  error_log.txt  then upload somewhere and then link to it.

I would like to know why your foomatic-rip is working if you have the time. If not, its my problem

If you are short of resources, you may like to turn off debug again and go back to warn

###### trivia   because I can't test foomatic-rip with my currrent PPD I am modified it.....which is naughty but an image always helps

incidently, in my past posts I had hp working pure wireless to router signal

today I connected the usb lead  (TC computer direct to local printer)  and even tho I did not print with a PPD using foomatic-rip filter, I can see in the debug log that I am using cups usb backend

That will be useful if I ever compile something in the future to know

Code: [Select]
Started backend /usr/local/lib/cups/backend/usb
