linphone - does it still work with the actual dependencies?

i want to use linphone extensively in the future, because i want to communicate with friends abroad.

i use mc4.1 and after loading linphone ondemand i get following error messages:

by the way, i tried at first a working oss- and lateralso a alsa-configuration,
after some missing dependencies i tried some additional alsa-packages, too.
but no result, the linphone window opens just for a very short moment and closes immediately.

would you be so kind a give me some hints that i can solve this problem?

I tried cca. 2 weeks ago on a clean TC 4.1 and it was working fine including video. Will take a look.

i didn't have the courage to ask for the video...
hard to believe that tc supports even linphone with video...
that would be great to have a real alternative to the proprietary skype!

I'm getting the same warnings as you up except I have only one set of ALSA messages. After that it works, see attached pictures just taken.

you are right, we have the same error messages...
with the exception of "Segmentation fault".

by the way: on my current notebook i have no webcam,
only loudspeakers and microfon, could that be a source for the errors?
i use a Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1.73GHz with 1GB RAM
with intel pci-express-grafic on board.

then i tried the same configuration on my acer aspire one netbook,
that has a built-in webcam.
i get the same segmentation fault,
but i see the two windows for 1-2 seconds,
a good looking sip-gui-window and a black webcam-window.
is there a way to start sip without the video-option?
perhaps my webcam isn't enough configured?

the same misbehavior happens with very basic boot codes: norestore
just basic microcore xvesa plus fluxbox plus linphone!

perhaps you could give me a list of your loaded programs?
on that base i could find missing dependency that wasn't noticed yet?

hi bmarkus,

after deactivating the video function, i can start linphone properly.
after my registration at sip.linphone.org, i can ring and hang up from my note- to my netbook and backwards.
though i have no headset yet and cause i'm not sure whether i configured the right hardware-devices
for the headphone, loudspeaker and microphone, i plan to buy me a external webcam with built-in microphone.

can you recommend your webcam? does it have a built-in microphone?
do you prefer certain manufactures and models?
i've read that certain drivers are in the kernels and others are proprietary.

could you give me a hint,

I have a webcam built into the notebook (ACER Aspire 5720Z) and also a built-in microphone. I did not configure cam, it is just working and no experience with other cams with Linux.

Maybe there is somwhere a compatibility list for v4l, or check kernel source.

i found nice compatibility lists and bought me a logitec c270...
i was told that it should be a well-linux-supported webcam, based on the uvc-driver.
actually i don't think that i have driver problems, because both webcams work flawless with mplayer.
i guess the problem is linphone, that crashes.
perhaps pulseaudio could hide another problem as well.
i read in forums that alsa and pulseaudio can cause some difficulties.

so it would be really great, if you want to update the version to 3.4.3 by the next time?
meanwhile i do heavy testing and inform you about the results.

i took all my three different platforms and tried with debian squeeze the linphone 3.3.2

and all my webcams work just fine with linphone, that's just great!!!!!!!

for the reason that tinycore became my favorite distribution now
(it's really the minimum requirement toolbox that works for all my needs and
additionally it works on so different hardware, so unbelievable flawless!!!!!!!)
it would be really great to have such a great video-function with linphone on tinycore, too.

i tried to convert the deb- to tcz-packages, but i ran into multiple dependencies
and this debian-converted linphone reported error messages that i couldn't solve yet.
the make-install-instructions of the source are not so easy to understand,
perhaps you could give me a hint
what environment- oder compile-packages of the repository are needed.
