How do I make Network Settings persistent
« on: November 02, 2011, 04:00:35 PM »
I did an HD install, and whenever I fire up network control panel, its not set to DHCP, and everything is blank.   So I set it up with static IP and all the appropriate settings, and it saves it to /opt/eth0.sh and adds a link into /opt/bootlocal.sh to call /opt/eth0.sh at boot...    ok, groovy, but it doesn't persist, nor does bring up the ethernet card to working.

I tried editing /opt/.filetool.lst and telling it to back up /opt/eth0.sh, and then do a filetool -b... my settings are not saved.  I tried using the Backup button in Control panel and telling it hda1, but that did nothing.  I tried on shutdown saying "Backup"...  and that did nothing.

I can't get this !@#$%^  to save my ethernet card settings or even default to DHCP.

Also, how do I restart the network.    I try  "network restart" and all that does is bring up the network control panel, which is not what I want.

Yeah that didn't help me, because it didn't tell me how to edit my default bootcodes to backup all of /opt

You do not want to backup all of opt.
The network setup utility edits .filetool.lst for you.
You just need to boot with an active tce directory and do a backup.

If this is a USB flash or hard drive, you need the waitusb=5 ( or 10 ) boot code.

You might also want to post your dmesg; if dhcp can't be started, perhaps you need firmware or the card is unsupported.
The only barriers that can stop you are the ones you create yourself.

I've noticed since moving to 4.0.2 that at least on some boots DHCP has been unchecked but I'm going to 4.1 today.
